Japanese squat toilet, including a pair of toilet slippers. The flush is on the front of the water tank, and can be rotated in either direction, giving a different size of flush. The Kanji 大 (ookii, meaning big) refers to a large flush after rotating the handle to the left for large size waste, i.e. feces. The kanji 小 (chiisai, meaning small) refers to a small flush after rotating the handle to the right for small size waste, i.e. urine. The grunt bar plumbing is wrapped for additional convenience. The handwritten sign to the left of the vertical pipe says, "Please squat a bit closer." This is added so that excrement does not fall onto the rear edge of the in-floor receptacle if the user squats too far back.

See Image:JapaneseToiletSlippers.jpg for a closeup on the slippers. See Image:WirelessToiletControlPanel.jpg for the control panel of the adjacent washlet. The toilet was in a temple hotel in Koya, Wakayama, Japan.
